The enemy RDA ships all used rather primitive ducted fan technology to stay up in the air. This represented a huge Achilles heel for the humans and a great opportunity for Jake, Neytiri and the Na'vi Omaticaya clan in battle. They could have easily exploited this strategy, potentially saving Hometree, avoiding many Na'vi (and heroic human) casualties, driving Quaritch, Selfridge and the humans away - potentially winning the battle and war.
From the first encounter, the Na'vi hunters (Iknimaya) should have used their Mountain Banshees (Ikran) to fly to a slightly higher altitude than the human's Scorpion Gunships and Dragon Assault Ships. Each Iknimaya is equipped with a satchel containing several baseball-sized rocks.
Once directly above an enemy ship, each Ikran-riding Iknimaya drops a stone, aiming for the enemy ship's ducted fan intake. These rocks could actually have been relatively small, each roughly about the size of a baseball and under a few pounds. An enemy ship could have been destroyed with a single well-placed rock. A single Ikran could carry enough rocks to take down several ships!
